Tiree Chmelar will be terribly missed not only by her family but by everybody who had ever met her and enjoyed her sunny, cheerful hospitality and kindness. Her smile, generosity and love for life touched, comforted and inspired hundreds of people around the world.

Tiree Chmelar was, together with her Czech-born husband Lubomir Chmelar, one of the founders of the Prague-Vienna Greenways project and the Greenways program in the Czech Republic promoting cultural and environmental preservation along the route between Prague and Vienna. Czech Greenways program was modeled on the Hudson River Valley Greenways and in 1994 governor Cuomo officially declared these two greenways sisters. Tiree Chmelar and her husband were instrumental in bringing organizations such as the World Monuments Fund, American Express Philanthropy Fund, Rockefeller Brothers Fund and The Trust for Mutual Understanding to support development of the Czech Greenways program.

English born, Tiree was an avid promoter of Czech culture and especially of her beloved town of Mikulov where she and her husband established their second home. She was the driving force behind the Friends of Czech Greenways in New York. The tragic collision cut short her work on the latest FCG project, the Restoration of the Herb Garden at the Valtice Chateau in the Czech Republic, which is underway in cooperation with the Mendel University Horticultural Faculty and the Environmental Foundation for Central Europe.
